Introduction
Southern Copper Corporation is engaged in the mining, exploration, smelting, and refining of copper and other minerals in Mexico, the United States, Peru, Brazil, Chile, and other countries in the Americas. The company is involved in the mining, grinding, and flotation of copper ore to produce copper and molybdenum concentrates; smelting copper concentrates into blister copper and anode copper; refining anode copper into electrolytic copper; producing copper-molybdenum concentrate and sulfuric acid; producing refined silver, gold, and other materials; and the mining and processing of copper, molybdenum, zinc, silver, gold, and lead. It operates the Tocopara and Cuajone open-pit mines, smelters, and refineries in Peru; and the La Carida open-pit copper mine in Mexico, as well as a copper ore concentrate plant and solvent extraction-electrowinning (SX-EW) plant, smelters, and copper rod plant. The company also operates the Buena Vista open-pit copper mine in Mexico, as well as a copper concentrate plant and solvent extraction-electrowinning (SX-EW) plant.
