About KAS

Kaspa is a Proof-of-Work (PoW) based ledger organized in a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) of blocks - a blockDAG.

A new block is added to the blockDAG every second, with many blocks being created in parallel. Unlike traditional blockchains, blocks are not isolated. Kaspa merges all blocks into a single blockDAG by allowing them to reference multiple parent blocks. The consensus protocol managing the blockDAG (referred to as PHANTOM) doesn't decide which conflicting blocks to discard but rather orders the concurrently created blocks. PHANTOM is an extension of Satoshi Nakamoto's consensus in Bitcoin.

Highlights of the KAS Project

Kaspa stands out in its ability to support a high block rate while maintaining the security level provided by the Proof-of-Work environment. The current mainnet speed of Kaspa is one block per second. In the future, core developers and researchers aim to push the functionality to the limits, targeting speeds of 10 or even 100 blocks per second.

KAS Network Security

The Kaspa network is secured by miners through Proof-of-Work and employs an algorithm called k-Heavyhash.

Choosing Heavyhash is for forward compatibility with photon miners when they become available.
