Apple Collaborates with Alibaba to Develop AI Large Model for China

Apple has partnered with Alibaba to train a self-developed large language model tailored for the Chinese market, which will be used for the upcoming "Apple Intelligence" AI feature launching in China. This model has been trained with the technical support of Alibaba, marking a shift from the previous strategy of solely integrating local third-party models. Chinese regulatory authorities completed the filing for Apple’s generative AI services last month, clearing compliance hurdles for these features to be available on the Chinese versions of iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. In the Chinese version, Apple will still integrate local models such as Alibaba's Qwen, and the self-developed model is expected to enhance its control over AI terminals in China to compete with local smartphone manufacturers like Huawei.
