The Bitcoin Red Team conducted a security audit of over 390 open source code repositories and discovered 85 critical vulnerabilities along with 635 high-risk issues. The team, led by software engineers Calle and Anchorwatch CEO Rob Hamilton, received over $40,000 in funding and completed the audit in 27.5 hours, averaging 2.31 critical or high-risk issues found per hour. The audit utilized cutting-edge models such as Kimi K3, GPT Sol, Fable, Opus, and GLM5.2, with costs covered by OpenSats. The team established partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic, developing a custom testing framework with over 171,599 lines of code aimed at identifying and testing key Bitcoin software libraries, with plans for eventual open-sourcing. Hamilton pointed out that the Coldcard vulnerability attack is a "spiritual attack" on Bitcoin and the ethos of self-custody, emphasizing that "without self-custody, there is no Bitcoin."
