Bridge Confirmation Delay Reduced from 14 Minutes to 12 Seconds

A major cross-chain bridge provider is pushing for the introduction of the Fast Confirmation Rule (FCR) for Ethereum (ETH) in September. If implemented, the delay time for some cross-chain paths originating from Layer 1 and Layer 2 could be reduced from approximately 14 minutes to as little as 12 seconds. Derek Chiang from EtherLabs announced this plan on X, although the name of the bridge provider has not been disclosed. The FCR is a technology aimed at reducing Ethereum block confirmation times by utilizing validator proofs to provide earlier confirmation signals under normal network conditions. According to the FCR introduction site, this feature can lower transaction confirmation times from about 13 minutes to approximately 13 seconds and can be applied without a hard fork. The FCR directly impacts user experience and fund waiting times in Layer 2 deposits, exchange deposits, and bridge transfers. Chiang plans to focus on the commercialization of Ethereum-based infrastructure technology after joining EtherLabs. The FCR is not a technology that replaces finality and operates under normal network conditions. On the same day, EtherLabs proposed censorship resistance and fast block generation as priorities for the Ethereum network upgrade, Hegota. The name of the company involved in this plan, its implementation status, and scope will need to be confirmed in subsequent announcements.
