China exported over 1 million cars in June 2026
In June 2026, car exports from China surpassed 1 million units for the first time in history, reaching 1.06 million vehicles, which is a 71.2% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge is attributed to a sharp decline in domestic sales following the cancellation of subsidies for electric vehicles and a decrease in demand for internal combustion engine cars. As a result, manufacturers began to seek external markets, leading to the imposition of high protective tariffs on Chinese cars in the EU and other countries. The leading exporters were Chery (191,062 vehicles, +80%), BYD (175,000 vehicles, +95%), and Geely (102,874 vehicles, +157%). Overall, China's exports in June grew by 27% year-on-year, while imports increased by 36%. China's positive trade balance in the first half of the year amounted to $576 billion, which is 4.7% less than the previous year. Exports of lithium batteries rose by 37.6%, wind turbines by 35.6%, while exports of rare earth metals fell by 34%. Imports of chips increased by 6.8% to 53.7 billion units.
