Coinbase Deploys 1,200 AI Agents to Optimize Its Internal Platforms
Brian Armstrong announced that Coinbase is using approximately 1,200 AI agents, each working the equivalent of 40 to 60 hours per week. These agents are integrated into Slack channels, participate in code reviews, and are involved in design phases. In one year, developer productivity has doubled, with a reduction in bugs per line of code. Armstrong envisions that AI agents will one day surpass human employees in workload. Teams are reorganized into 'pods' of two to four humans supported by about ten agents. On September 27, Armstrong proposed inter-team billing, with AI agents to arbitrate internal services. Coinbase has also launched 'Coinbase for Agents', a service for its clients' AI agents. Each backend service is expected to have an access point for feedback, allowing agents to report bugs and suggest fixes.
