In Ukraine, an automatic data exchange system for the origin of exported timber has been launched between the State Customs Service, the State Forest Agency, and the State Enterprise "Forest Management Innovative Analytical Center". The new system will allow for quicker detection of attempts to export timber using invalid certificates. Information exchange will be conducted through the "Single Window for International Trade" system, with data on the expiration of certificates being transmitted in real-time. Customs authorities will also provide information on the processing of timber exports. In 2025-2026, customs officials identified 657 cases of providing false information in certificates, resulting in violation protocols totaling 158 million UAH. A common scheme involved using documents for a different batch of timber. To enhance control, product characteristics such as moisture content have been added to the certificates, allowing for the distinction between freshly cut timber and processed wood. The certificate confirms the legality of the product's origin during export.
