Family of IT Employee in France Held Hostage for 3 Hours, Robbed of €40,000
In France, a family of an IT employee in the digital asset industry was held hostage for three hours in their home and robbed of digital assets worth approximately €40,000. Four masked men broke into the victim's house around 4 a.m. on the 21st, binding the couple and their children, aged 8 and 12, and forcing them to hand over account identification information and access codes. The incident occurred in Bandrieux, northern France, and authorities have launched an investigation into organized kidnapping and extortion. The suspects assaulted the victims and fled in a vehicle after stealing the digital assets. The victimized family managed to free themselves and escape, with firefighters arriving on the scene at 7 a.m. France has seen the highest number of ransomware attack victims this year, with over 70 kidnapping incidents related to digital assets recorded in the first eight months of the year. According to Decrypt, this incident is classified as a violent robbery targeting digital asset holders.
