Google's Prototype Satellite Completes First On-Orbit AI Inference
Google's Project Suncatcher prototype satellite has successfully completed its first on-orbit AI inference. Google CEO Sundar Pichai posted on the X platform that the team sent commands to the satellite in orbit, activated the TPU on board, and ran prompts, with the ground receiving the first complete response, which was a haiku. The project aims to deploy solar-powered satellites equipped with TPUs into space to explore the use of solar energy for AI computations. The prototype satellite was launched into orbit in early October as part of a SpaceX mission.
