Huawei's Chief Scientist Liao Heng warned in a public interview that Western chip giants like Nvidia are approaching physical limits in their pursuit of more powerful processors. He stated, "There is inevitably a ceiling when scaling up by continuously increasing computing chips and more HBM. Once this physical limit is surpassed, an avalanche will occur." Liao compared the AI value chain to an "18-layer pagoda," emphasizing the need for China to establish collaborative capabilities at every level, particularly between chip manufacturers and AI model developers. He revealed that Huawei will release its first smartphone chip designed based on the Tau Scaling Law framework, utilizing LogicFolding technology, which is expected to be disassembled and analyzed later this year, revealing how this alternative path can help narrow the gap. The Tau Scaling Law is a design concept proposed by Huawei aimed at enhancing the transmission speed between various components of computer systems. Liao also praised DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng, believing that the key to training top models with low computing power by 2025 lies in innovative model architecture design. He pointed out that Huawei is also developing efficient AI chip architectures through collaborative design between chips and models, stressing the need to invest more effort in design to achieve greater complexity with less computational resource consumption.
