Is the fixed term still yielding? How much do $3,000,000 generate in 30 days
The traditional fixed term remains one of the most used savings alternatives for those looking to obtain returns without taking on significant risks. However, after the deregulation of minimum rates by the Central Bank, each financial institution freely sets the interest it offers to its clients, which means that the final profit can vary depending on the bank.
Today, the annual nominal rates (TNA) show significant differences among the main entities. According to these values, choosing one bank over another can represent several thousand pesos in difference for a 30-day investment.
These differences have led more and more savers to compare rates before immobilizing their capital, especially in a context where inflation and the evolution of the dollar remain key variables for assessing the real return on an investment.
The interest of a traditional fixed term depends on three factors: the invested capital, the annual nominal rate offered by the bank, and the time the deposited money remains. Taking the current conditions of Banco Nación as a reference:
- A deposit of $3,000,000 made in person generates an interest of $38,219.18 after 30 days. Upon maturity, the client receives a total of $3,038,219.18.
If the deposit is made through home banking or the bank's official application:
- The profit increases to $46,849.32, so the amount credited at the end of the term rises to $3,046,849.32.
The difference is solely due to the applied rate. Many financial institutions offer a higher return for electronic transactions because they reduce administrative costs and encourage the use of digital channels.
As the Central Bank no longer sets a minimum rate for traditional fixed terms, each financial institution defines the return it offers to its clients. For this reason, it is advisable to compare the current rates before investing.
The Annual Nominal Rates (TNA) reported for online deposits for 30 days at the main banks are as follows:
- Banco Provincia: 19.50%
- Banco Nación: 19.00%
- Banco Macro: 18.75%
- Banco BBVA: 18.25%
- Banco Credicoop: 17.50%
- Banco Galicia: 17.50%
- ICBC: 17.20%
- Banco Ciudad: 17.00%
- Banco Patagonia: 16.00%
- Banco Santander: 16.00%
The traditional fixed term continues to be one of the simplest savings instruments in the Argentine financial system. It can be established in both pesos and dollars, although the vast majority of placements correspond to deposits in the national currency.
The minimum term for traditional deposits in pesos is 30 days, although there are options for longer durations. Once this period expires, the money automatically returns to the account of the holder, unless they have opted for automatic renewal.
Another relevant point is that deposits are covered by the deposit guarantee system up to the limit established by current regulations, provided that the conditions set by the corresponding regime are met.
Before establishing a fixed term, it is advisable to evaluate what the real return on the investment will be against inflation. If the general price increase exceeds the interest obtained during the same period, the purchasing power of the money may decrease even if the capital generates a nominal profit.
For this reason, it is recommended to periodically analyze the rates offered by banks, inflation expectations, and available alternatives before deciding where to place savings.
