Japan's Financial Services Agency Supports Stablecoin Trade Settlement Pilot, Launching in September 2026

The Japan Financial Services Agency (FSA) has announced its support for the fourth case of its fintech pilot program, with participants including TradeWaltz, NTT DATA, Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation. This pilot program is expected to commence in September 2026, aiming to verify the application of stablecoins in trade transaction fund settlements and to address related legal issues. After the experiment concludes, the FSA will publish results and conclusions regarding compliance and regulatory responses, as well as interpretations of laws for services provided to general users.
