Kitty Richards Claims Budget Bill Repeal is First Step Towards Fiscal Stability
Kitty Richards, a former U.S. Treasury official, expressed skepticism about the proposal to issue $5,000 checks, arguing that repealing last year's Republican budget bill should take precedence over cash payments. In a Bloomberg interview on September 15, he stated that the likelihood of this legislation being pushed forward soon is low. Richards explained that this bill added $4 trillion to the deficit over the past decade and that its repeal could also benefit Americans who have lost health insurance coverage. He pointed out that the fiscal issues are problems created by the president. Regarding the Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions, Richards predicted that the FOMC would find it difficult not to raise rates, noting that bond yields have reached their highest levels since 2007. He warned that without an interest rate hike, long-term rates could rise. Additionally, he mentioned the Iran war and energy prices as key variables for inflationary pressures, indicating that the supply chain crisis could lead to price increases across the economy. Richards emphasized that the $5,000 check proposal is different from the situation during COVID-19.
