Massive Withdrawal of CTA Positions in US Stocks for Q4, $1.3 Trillion Buyback Plan Awaiting Launch
The positions of CTAs (Commodity Trading Advisors) in US stocks have recently undergone significant adjustments, with the Z-value dropping from +2.35 at the end of August to -0.80, indicating a clear reduction in long positions. US companies have authorized approximately $1.3 trillion in stock buybacks this year, with some buyback plans set to resume after October 15. Historical data shows that buyback activity typically increases in November. Seasonal data indicates that since 1930, the S&P 500 index has averaged a 5.6% increase in the fourth quarter of US midterm election years. The Nasdaq 100 index futures are approaching the critical resistance level of 31,200 points, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index has broken through short-term resistance and is nearing historical highs. Goldman Sachs expects that bond issuance by major cloud providers could reach $420 billion by 2027, with interest expenses accounting for a low proportion of profits; Morgan Stanley data shows that the net leverage of related companies is about 0.4 times, with cash approximately 132% of their debt. Goldman Sachs states that pricing expectations for traditional storage and HBM are beginning to stabilize, while JPMorgan points out that the profit outlook for semiconductor hardware remains solid, with strong demand for TSMC's AI accelerators. Another variable for the fourth quarter is crude oil, as Goldman Sachs believes that the global crude oil inventory buffer has significantly thinned, and a $100 oil price does not contradict the current supply-demand balance.
