MetaMask Launches Additional Protection Feature Against Red Pill Attacks
MetaMask has introduced an additional security feature to prevent phishing risks associated with red pill attacks, where the transaction preview does not match the actual execution results. This feature writes the results seen by users in the transaction preview into the transaction execution conditions. If the actual execution results of the smart contract do not match the preview, the transaction will automatically fail, and funds will not leave the wallet; however, users will still need to bear the gas fees for the transaction. This feature is enabled by default, and users can disable it on the confirmation page. It has been launched on MetaMask browser extension v13.45, covering 13 EVM networks that support smart accounts (EIP-7702), with mobile support to be rolled out later.
