Microsoft plans to raise at least $25 billion through the issuance of U.S. bonds, marking its first high-grade bond issuance in over nine years. This issuance is driven by a surge in financing demand due to the AI investment boom, with Microsoft joining its peers in borrowing. The plan includes issuing benchmark bonds in 10 tranches, with maturities ranging from 2 to 40 years. The initial pricing guidance for the longest bond (maturing in 2066) is set to be up to 1.35 percentage points higher than U.S. Treasury yields. Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, and UBS Group will be responsible for this bond issuance. The proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, including capital expenditures. This issuance ends Microsoft's long absence from the bond market, with the last high-rated bond issuance occurring in 2017, raising $17 billion.
