OpenAI CEO Altman to Address AI Safety Issues at UN Security Council Next Week
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will address the United Nations Security Council on AI and international security issues next week during the UN General Assembly in New York. The Security Council plans to hold a public meeting on AI and international security on Wednesday. Altman's remarks will focus on the measures OpenAI is taking to ensure AI safety and the necessity of promoting international coordination and establishing common safety standards. This meeting comes as several figures in the AI industry are calling for a coordinated slowdown in the development of advanced AI technologies, warning that the rapid enhancement of AI capabilities could pose risks beyond human control. Altman has previously stated that the development of superintelligent AI could be one of the greatest threats facing humanity.
