Poland Sues Fifth Suspect in Zondacrypto Case
The Polish prosecutor's office has charged the fifth suspect, Roman Ż., in the Zondacrypto exchange case and has decided to impose pre-trial detention on him. The investigation involves a fraud case with estimated losses of at least 350 million zlotys, approximately 94 million USD. Roman Ż. faces two charges: participating in an organized crime group and misappropriating client funds, involving an amount of 7.8 million zlotys, about 2.1 million USD. Roman Ż. was detained on September 5 in the Silesia region as he planned to travel to China. The defense claims this trip was for business purposes and that he had purchased a return ticket for September 13, but the prosecution requested detention, citing potential maximum sentences of 10 years, obstruction of the investigation, and flight risk. Luxury watches and documents related to the exchange were seized during the search. Four defendants have already been publicly charged in this case, which began its investigation on April 17 due to allegations of fraud and money laundering. As of mid-2026, over 3,600 complaints have been filed, and the prosecution has frozen over 100 million zlotys and approximately 4 million euros.
