Abnormal heat and lack of precipitation in Ukraine have negatively impacted potato yields, leading to an increase in both procurement and retail prices this autumn. Nikolai Furdyga, director of the Potato Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, reported that the current potato yield is 30% lower than last year's. The main reason for the decline in yield was temperature stress, with temperatures exceeding +37 °C for more than 5 days, disrupting photosynthesis and causing water loss. Even irrigation systems could not fully compensate for the consequences. It is expected that by the end of October or early November, the price of potatoes from the field will rise by 30%, while products from storage will increase by 12-15%. Currently, there is a temporary decrease in procurement prices to 6.5-7 UAH/kg due to the active harvesting of early varieties.
