A group of researchers from the University of Texas at Austin has developed Inktelligent, an electronic ink that is applied directly to the skin and functions as a flexible sensor. This technology allows for the recording of physiological signals such as muscle activity through electromyography (EMG) and electrical activity of the heart via electrocardiograms (ECG). Unlike traditional electrodes, the ink forms an ultra-thin film that adapts to the body's surface, maintaining good performance for several hours, even with repetitive movements. The system is applied with a stencil, making it easy to use and allowing for the customization of sensors for different parts of the body. This innovation aims to provide a more comfortable and less irritating alternative for those requiring continuous monitoring, especially in patients with sensitive skin. However, further studies are needed to assess its long-term performance and in various patient groups.
