Ukraine attracts $116.2 million for energy grid and storage development
The board of the Climate Investment Funds has approved Ukraine's investment plan of $116.2 million for the development of renewable energy, interstate power grids, and storage systems. Key projects include a new interconnector with Romania and attracting private investments in storage systems with a total capacity of 610 MW. The "Integration of Renewable Energy Sources" program will be implemented through public and private channels. In the public sector, an investment package worth about $200 million has been formed in collaboration with the World Bank and NEC "Ukrenergo". One of the largest projects is the construction of the interstate 400 kV power line from Chernivtsi to Suceava, which will provide additional capacity of 880 MW towards Ukraine and 445 MW towards European power grids. There are also plans to modernize five high-voltage substations and upgrade the infrastructure of "Ukrenergo". The private sector is being developed by the International Finance Corporation and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, including support for investments in autonomous battery systems with a total capacity of 610 MW. The expansion of storage systems will create more opportunities for the integration of solar and wind generation.
