Zaporizhstal is in a prolonged downtime following Russian shelling, and the resumption of operations is not expected in the near future. The blockade of the ports of Odesa limits the production and export capabilities of metal products. Acting General Director Taras Shevchenko noted that issues with maritime logistics negatively impact the export of Ukrainian metallurgy. The extended shutdown of the plant has already created difficult conditions, and the blockade of ports exacerbates the situation with exports and foreign currency inflows. Tax deductions from Zaporizhzhia enterprises of Metinvest have decreased: from January to June 2026, Zaporizhstal, Zaporizhkoks, Zaporizhzhia Refractories, and Metinvest Machinery paid almost UAH 1.6 billion, which is lower than UAH 1.7 billion for the same period last year. More than UAH 470 million was received in local budgets. The main payments included the unified social contribution, personal income tax, environmental tax, and fees. Throughout 2025, Zaporizhzhia enterprises paid about UAH 4 billion in taxes and fees. In August, as a result of a strike on Zaporizhstal, seven workers were killed, and 21 people were injured, leading to a complete shutdown of the plant.
