Zcash has launched a new full node called Zakura, maintained by an independent team. It is released as a streamlined version of Zebra for fast synchronization and is compatible with the old zcashd client, which will reach the end of its lifecycle on July 18. Zakura is part of Zcash's scalability efforts, combining Project Tachyon and private information retrieval research, with the goal of increasing network throughput to levels comparable to Visa and Mastercard by reducing verification data and eliminating wallet performance bottlenecks. Zakura also supports the Ironwood (NU6.3) upgrade, which will activate on July 28. This upgrade introduces a turnstile mechanism to limit withdrawals from the Orchard shielded pool and control potential counterfeit ZEC generated by long-term soundness bugs.
