Bitcoin Pizza Day
Bitcoin Pizza Day, celebrated annually on May 22, marks the first real-world transaction using Bitcoin. On this day in 2010, a Florida-based programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz famously paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas, a transaction worth only $41 at the time. Today, with Bitcoin's value having reached tens of thousands of dollars per coin, the 10,000 BTC paid for the pizzas would be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, making it one of the most iconic examples of early Bitcoin transactions. Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated by the crypto community as a way to honor Bitcoin's early beginnings and to recognize how far the cryptocurrency has come. It's also a reminder of the massive appreciation in value Bitcoin has experienced since its inception, underscoring the importance of Bitcoin's use as both a currency and an investment vehicle.
