Arc Browser to Shut Down, Ending Operations on December 22, 2026
The Browser Company has announced that it will completely cease operations of the Arc browser for macOS and Windows on December 22, 2026, and has closed new user registrations. Starting from November 23, mobile AI features, login, and tab synchronization will gradually be disabled, as the team shifts its focus entirely to the AI browser Dia. Arc was launched in 2022, initially available only to Mac users by invitation, and became fully accessible in 2023, with plans to roll out on Windows and mobile platforms in 2024. The product design includes a vertical tab bar, independent workspaces, automatic tab organization, split-screen browsing, and the ability for users to directly modify the appearance of web pages. The company previously disclosed that Arc had over 1 million weekly active users. Founder Josh Miller stated that Arc was too complex for average users, with a high learning curve, as only 5.52% of daily active users frequently utilized multiple workspaces. The team will stop developing new features in 2025 and shift to Dia. In October of the same year, the parent company was acquired by Atlassian for approximately $610 million. The reason for the shutdown is that browser security in the AI era requires ongoing investment, and engineering and security resources must be concentrated on Dia.
