Polygon Labs brings Open Money Stack to Solana for payments
Polygon Labs has expanded its Open Money Stack payment infrastructure to Solana, allowing businesses to connect bank accounts, digital wallets, cross-chain transfers and global payouts through a single integration.
Summary
- Polygon Labs has expanded Open Money Stack to Solana, allowing businesses to access bank funding, digital wallets, cross chain transfers and global payout services through a single integration.
- Businesses building on Solana can now connect supported banking and cryptocurrency payment channels while moving funds between networks including Polygon, Ethereum and TRON.
- Kira is among the first companies adopting the Solana integration to help fintechs, OTC desks and import brokers convert stablecoin transfers into dollars for international supplier payments.
- The expansion follows Polygon's addition of TRON support and its acquisition of Coinme, which brought its U.S. payments business coverage across 48 states.
- Polygon Labs said Polygon Chain has processed more than $3 trillion in cumulative stablecoin transfer volume, while Solana has handled over $5 trillion in stablecoin volume during 2026.
According to an October 29 announcement shared with crypto.news, the integration allows companies building on Solana to accept payments through supported banking and cryptocurrency channels, move funds between blockchain networks and deliver payments to customers or suppliers in their preferred currencies.
Kira, a financial technology company that connects U.S. banking services with stablecoin payments, is among the first customers adopting Solana through the platform.
The expansion allows businesses to access Polygon's payment infrastructure without moving their existing products away from Solana. Companies can use the complete Open Money Stack service or select individual components that work alongside their current payment systems.
Polygon Foundation co-founder and CEO Sandeep Nailwal said banks and fintech companies face difficulties connecting cryptocurrency payments with the financial accounts and payment systems their customers already use.
"Adding Solana means more businesses can build on the network their customers choose and use Polygon to handle the money movement around it," Nailwal said.
Polygon Open Money Stack connects Solana to banking services
Through the new integration, businesses can connect supported bank transfers, card payments, cash services and cryptocurrency funding options directly to products operating on Solana.
Polygon Open Money Stack provides customer accounts and embedded wallets that allow users to hold and transfer supported digital assets without having to manage a separate cryptocurrency application.
Once funds enter the system, businesses can route payments between Solana and other supported blockchain networks, including Polygon, Ethereum, TRON and several Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible chains.
The platform handles payment routing, asset conversions and transaction execution, while its payout infrastructure connects cryptocurrency balances to supported banking, card, cash and wallet payment channels.
For example, a remittance company could collect dollars from a customer's bank account, transfer USDC through Solana and arrange a bank payout for the recipient in another country.
Similarly, an online marketplace could accept stablecoin payments on Solana and distribute earnings to sellers through cryptocurrency wallets or supported local currency payment services.
The integration builds on Polygon's previous addition of TRON to Open Money Stack on October 8.
As previously reported by crypto.news, the TRON integration introduced support for USDT deposits, wallet management and transfers between TRON and compatible blockchain networks through Polygon Trails.
Businesses using the service can move supported assets between networks and convert them into other stablecoins without requiring customers to interact directly with blockchain bridges.
Kira adopts Solana integration for international payments
Kira is among the first businesses adopting the newly supported Solana infrastructure to serve fintech companies, over-the-counter trading desks and import brokers that regularly handle international payments.
The company provides access to U.S. dollar accounts and supported banking channels, allowing clients to receive payments, manage stablecoin balances and pay overseas suppliers.
Through Polygon Open Money Stack, Kira can connect its existing Solana stablecoin transfers with banking services that convert digital assets into dollars for business payments.
Edrizio De La Cruz, Kira's CEO and co-founder, said the company already uses Solana for stablecoin transfers but needs banking connections to deliver those funds to customers.
"Working with Polygon helps us turn those transfers into dollars in our clients' bank accounts when they need to pay suppliers," he said.
Kira was previously named alongside Tazapay, Mesh and Toku as an early Open Money Stack customer following Polygon's completion of its Coinme acquisition earlier this month.
The acquisition brought 37 state money transmitter licenses and 11 applicable exemptions into Polygon's U.S. payments business, providing coverage across 48 states.
The company said its payments infrastructure combines regulated banking connections with digital wallets, cryptocurrency conversions and settlement services across supported blockchain networks.
Solana stablecoin volume surpasses $5 trillion in 2026
The Solana integration arrives after the network processed more than $5 trillion in stablecoin transaction volume during 2026, according to Solana Foundation Chief Product Officer Vibhu Norby.
Norby said connecting Solana with bank accounts and global payout networks would allow businesses to offer stablecoin payment services to more customers and markets.
"Polygon Open Money Stack provides another path for businesses to access these capabilities, complementing the infrastructure and payment solutions already available across the Solana ecosystem," he added.
The Solana Foundation has been developing its institutional payments business this year, including the appointment of Jamal Raees as general manager of payments in September.
Raees, a former Polygon Labs executive, was appointed to work with payment companies and enterprises interested in using Solana for financial transactions.
Meanwhile, Polygon Chain, which serves as one of the settlement networks within Open Money Stack, has processed more than $3 trillion in cumulative stablecoin transfer volume, according to Polygon Labs.
