Besant Claims CLARITY Tool Will Protect Community Banks
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant stated that the CLARITY Act is crucial for ensuring that the United States wins in the global competition for new technologies. He emphasized the necessity for Congress to pass the GENIUS Act to ensure the development of stablecoin infrastructure in the U.S. Besant pointed out that ensuring the prosperity of the community banking sector is a key focus, and the government's dual efforts to promote the development of new digital technologies and adjust community bank regulations are essential for driving U.S. economic growth. The CLARITY Act grants the Treasury Secretary the authority to take action when deposit outflows adversely affect community banks. Besant stressed that if stablecoins harm community banks, he will not hesitate to use these tools to protect them, believing that community banks are vital to the U.S. economy and Main Street growth, where economic security equates to national security, and community banks play an important role in this principle.
