Bitcoin Policy Institute Joins Palantir and Anduril in U.S. Initiative
The U.S. State Department has announced the establishment of the Freedom Tech Excellence Program (FTEP), an initiative that will bring together private sector experts to collaboratively work on projects related to foreign policy and the promotion of digital freedom. One of the founding partners of this program is the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI), along with Palantir Technologies, Anduril Industries, and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.
According to the U.S. government, the program will operate as a talent exchange mechanism, allowing professionals from businesses and organizations to participate temporarily in initiatives led by the State Department. The proposal aims to enhance the agency's technical capabilities on issues deemed strategically significant to U.S. international policy.
The Bitcoin Policy Institute has stated that its participation will focus on matters related to internet freedom of speech, digital privacy, and the governance of artificial intelligence.
Expected activities for participants include developing initiatives to protect First Amendment principles in the digital environment, combating electronic surveillance and cyber fraud, and encouraging the use of privacy-focused technologies. The program will also include discussions on the responsible use of artificial intelligence on an international scale.
In a statement, the State Department indicated that the initiative will help bring expertise into areas where the government still seeks to expand its technical proficiency.
Selected professionals will remain affiliated with their original organizations throughout their participation. According to the government, these roles will have clear timeframes and do not represent a permanent recruitment path into federal public service.
The establishment of this program occurs during the tenure of current U.S. President Donald Trump, whose administration has prioritized cryptocurrency as one of its economic and technological policy focuses. Since the beginning of his term, several measures have been implemented to position the country as a global benchmark in this field, including the creation of a strategic reserve of Bitcoin and the establishment of a national cryptocurrency inventory composed of assets seized in criminal proceedings.
Founded in 2021, the Bitcoin Policy Institute is a non-partisan, non-profit think tank dedicated to developing public policy related to Bitcoin. The organization works through research, educational programs, and dialogue with U.S. lawmakers. Currently, it is chaired by David Zell.
