Brazil's largest digital asset exchange, Mercado Bitcoin, has experienced a fund leak amounting to approximately $46.3 million (about 66 billion won). On the 2nd, Mercado Bitcoin confirmed a security incident and temporarily suspended its digital asset deposit and withdrawal services. According to blockchain analysis firm Arkham Intelligence, the assets related to the attack amount to about $46.3 million, but this is not the officially confirmed loss by the exchange. Mercado Bitcoin stated that it quickly blocked the security incident discovered in one of its systems. It explained that there was no damage to customer assets or leakage of personal information. To prevent further losses, the exchange has temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals and has begun tracking the leaked funds. They are investigating the circumstances of the incident in cooperation with relevant authorities and have also disclosed the receiving wallet addresses of suspicious transactions. The attack occurred primarily around a previously used deposit wallet, and it is reported that the attacker is moving assets to multiple wallets. Stablecoin issuer Tether has frozen over 4.5 million USDT related to this incident. The Mercado Bitcoin incident comes amid a series of large-scale security breaches in the digital asset industry. Last month, Binance experienced a major hacking incident where approximately $6 billion worth of assets were stolen.
