Circle has launched an experiment named "Steve," creating eight autonomous AI agents based on the Vercel "eve" framework. Each agent has its own USDC wallet and initial funding, tasked with predicting the last three matches of the 2026 World Cup for profit. These agents autonomously search for and pay for necessary services in the Agent Marketplace through the x402 protocol, placing prediction orders with all decisions and payments displayed in real-time. The experiment has set safety limits such as a cap on single payments and total wallet amounts, preventing agents from increasing these limits and ensuring they do not exceed preset caps. At the end of the experiment, the remaining funds of about $10,000 from the eight agent accounts will be donated to the Apache Software Foundation, with Circle Impact matching this donation on a one-to-one basis, bringing the total donation to over $20,000. Circle stated that this experiment demonstrates the capabilities of autonomous agents built on open-source code, and the project is not affiliated with FIFA or the official World Cup. In the future, they plan to allow more developers to build autonomous agents based on this framework.
