FBI Asks Employees to Assume Personal Information Has Been Compromised by ShinyHunters
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has instructed its employees in an internal memo to assume that their personal information has been compromised by the hacker group ShinyHunters. The group claims to have breached FBIjobs.gov, obtaining nearly 2 to 3TB of data on almost all FBI agents and job applicants. ShinyHunters states that the data includes names, phone numbers, addresses, and some spouse information, and claims to have accessed the system through a previously unknown vulnerability in Oracle PeopleSoft. The FBI is investigating the incident and has not yet confirmed the scale of the data or the method of the breach. Brett Leatherman, head of the FBI's cyber division, released a video on September 29, mentioning a previous arrest operation carried out by Dutch police and urging the group to contact the FBI proactively. ShinyHunters subsequently stated that it would not release the relevant data.
