Grayscale Adds BitGo as Custodian for Hyperliquid Staking ETF
Grayscale has appointed BitGo Bank & Trust as an additional custodian for a portion of the HYPE held by its Hyperliquid Staking ETF, according to a filing with the SEC. BitGo will provide custody and safekeeping services for the trust's HYPE holdings. This move reflects the growing complexity of altcoin and staking products, which are establishing institutional custody structures for assets that previously traded mainly in crypto-native venues. The introduction of a publicly accessible staking ETF based on HYPE signifies a significant evolution in market development. Custody arrangements are essential for managing operational risks and meeting public securities requirements, especially for funds that actively engage in staking. The addition of a regulated custodian enhances operational flexibility and reduces reliance on a single provider. Grayscale is expanding similar structures across various crypto assets as the ETF market evolves beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. The market is now developing custody, staking, and fund-administration systems for specialized proof-of-stake assets, with Hyperliquid exemplifying this trend. While BitGo's addition does not alter the investment case for HYPE, it highlights the rapid development of institutional frameworks around major crypto assets.
