Guizhou Man Sentenced to Seven Months for Fraudulent Virtual Currency Airdrop

The Pingba District Court in Anshun City, Guizhou Province, sentenced defendant Zhao to seven months in prison for fraud, along with a fine of 5,000 yuan. Zhao met the victim, Zhang, through a social media platform due to virtual currency investment. In August 2025, Zhao claimed that a certain app was launching an airdrop project and promised a return of 100 to 200 U within two days, enticing Zhang to convert 1,757 USD in his account into Ethereum and transfer it. The actual receiving wallet was a personal account registered under Zhao's girlfriend's identity. After noticing the irregularities, Zhang reported to the police in September 2025. The Pingba District Prosecutor's Office filed a public prosecution against Zhao for suspected fraud on April 2 this year, and the court made a ruling on April 15.
