Kalshi Launches US 500 Perpetual Futures After CFTC Approval
The prediction market platform Kalshi has launched a perpetual futures contract called 'US 500' that tracks 500 large-cap U.S. stocks. Approved by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on the 6th (local time), this product is a single contract with no expiration, allowing investors to take leveraged positions on the overall rise and fall of the U.S. stock market. The US 500 perpetual futures track the MerQube US Large Cap Index and are settled in cash. Unlike traditional futures, there is no set expiration date, so investors do not need to roll their positions into the next month upon contract expiration. Kalshi explains that this product can enhance capital efficiency, enabling investors to build short positions across the entire market without traditional options. By launching perpetual futures, Kalshi is expanding its business scope as a financial trading platform and is also preparing perpetual futures related to crude oil and individual stocks. This allows investors to take leveraged positions on these assets without actually holding the underlying stocks.
