Lee Eok-yeon expresses intention to review additional approval for Lucent Block
Lee Eok-yeon, the chairman of the Financial Services Commission, stated that he would review the necessity of additional approval for Lucent Block based on market conditions. During the National Assembly's audit on the 22nd, when Representative Jo Jeong-hoon asked about the intention for additional approval for Lucent Block, Chairman Lee responded that he would first examine the operational status of existing approved businesses. Representative Jo pointed out that despite Lucent Block having demonstrated its business through the financial regulatory sandbox, it failed to obtain formal distribution approval and demanded additional approval. Chairman Lee said, 'If there is a necessity, I will review it.' Furthermore, there was ongoing controversy regarding the scope of services specified in the document designating Lucent Block as an innovative financial service. Representative Jo rebutted that the Financial Services Commission's explanation was inappropriate, but Chairman Lee explained that the sandbox exceptions were granted based on issuance. The responsibility for the approval decision process also became a point of contention, with Chairman Lee stating, 'Everything that comes out of the Financial Services Commission is my responsibility.' Representative Jo raised concerns that Lucent Block was instructed to choose between issuance and distribution when applying for formal approval. Chairman Lee clarified that this approval policy targets the distribution sector and stated that he would review the necessity for additional approval based on future market conditions.
