SDE ep. 49: Bitcoin and the Separation of Money and State
In episode 49 of Separating Money and State, Rodolfo Andragnes, founder of the NGO Bitcoin Argentina, discusses the importance of Bitcoin in the separation of money and state. Andragnes, who registered the domain bitcoins.com in 1997, argues that awareness of this separation is fundamental. The NGO conducts approximately 300 activities annually, reaching 50,000 people, and has developed an artificial intelligence assistant about Bitcoin called Sato. Additionally, the Bitcoineta, an outreach vehicle, travels across the country. Andragnes will give the opening talk at LaBitConf, which will take place on October 30 and 31. He emphasizes that Bitcoin performs the functions of money better than any alternative, and that in the mining industry, Bitcoin is the effective unit of account. His 'value formula' combines utility and cost, and he points out that every stablecoin implies a promise, while Bitcoin does not grant rights over anything. He also mentions that the travel rule is an obstacle to reintegrating P2P funds into the formal circuit and that in Argentina, cash payments above a certain amount require an invoice.
