Stellar Activates Post-Quantum Signature Firms in Test Network
The Stellar test network activated Protocol 30, named Bell, on November 3, 2026, which introduces post-quantum signature verification mechanisms. This change allows for multi-user accounts and reduces processing times. The technical community will be able to evaluate cryptographic tools designed to withstand advanced cyber attacks before the final voting for its implementation on the main network, scheduled for November 23, 2026. The proposal, presented on October 20, 2026, includes modifications such as multiplexed contract addresses and post-quantum signature verification. The update allows a single smart account to manage multiple users and integrates with the standard of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States. Although the update does not make the Stellar network post-quantum, it enables contract accounts to opt for quantum-secure authorization. Network transaction signatures will continue to use the Ed25519 algorithm.
