Subscriptions to streaming platforms have become a fixed expense for the budgets of most Argentine households. Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, YouTube Premium, and other services accumulate alongside work tools, cloud storage, and applications that also require a monthly payment in dollars.
The problem arises when several payments are charged at the same time, and the user loses track of how much they spend each month. This is why constantly reviewing the contracted services, in addition to knowing which currency is more convenient to pay for foreign consumption, can make a significant difference in your wallet.
With so many accounts open, one loses track of how much they are paying for entertainment services.
Organize your subscriptions: the best trick to save money.
The first thing to do is review all active subscriptions and identify which ones are actually still necessary. By maintaining many subscriptions, many people continue to pay for services they stopped using months ago, higher plans than they need, or free periods that automatically transitioned to a paid mode.
It is also important to check if you are paying for two platforms that serve the same function. For example, if a person has Spotify and YouTube Premium solely to listen to music, they can evaluate which one they use more often and cancel the other. The same goes for various movie and series applications when one of them hasn't been used in a long time.
It is also essential to verify the services included in phone or internet plans, as some companies add Netflix, Disney+, or other options within certain packages, meaning a user could end up paying twice for the same platform.
Free trials are useful for getting to know a service before starting to pay for it. Some companies offer trials of 7, 14, or even 30 days. As a user, the best approach is to set an alarm before the expiration to cancel on time if the product does not meet expectations.
Another trick is to disable automatic renewal of the payment, allowing the user to maintain greater control over which service they keep each month and which can be suspended until they need it again. Family and group plans are great for further reducing the cost per person, as Spotify or YouTube Premium allow shared accounts.
For tools used throughout the year, annual plans can offer discounts of up to 40% on the fee. According to figures from December 2025, eight of the most popular digital subscriptions could add up to around $78,126 monthly. This increases with video games, storage, artificial intelligence, and professional programs.
Why it is convenient to pay in dollars for platform subscriptions.
Many international digital expenses are expressed in dollars on the credit card statement. If the user pays off that debt with pesos, a 30% perception for Income or Personal Assets may apply, in addition to the charges corresponding to each service.
Since 2025, the PAIS Tax no longer applies to this type of consumption, but the difference between paying the foreign currency portion with pesos or doing so with your own dollars remains significant. The main alternative is to acquire MEP dollars and keep them in a savings account in that currency. When the statement arrives, the holder can directly pay the balance expressed in dollars and avoid the 30% currency perception.
To do this correctly, it is essential to review each bank's mechanism. For cards with automatic debit, it is often necessary to apply a stop debit before the due date to prevent the entity from automatically converting the balance to pesos. Then, the user must separately pay the portion expressed in dollars from their account in that currency and pay the pesos component according to the bank's instructions.
