Trump Administration Halts Green Card Certification for MS and Infosys
The Trump administration announced that it will indefinitely suspend the green card acquisition support procedures for foreign workers at major tech companies such as Microsoft and Infosys. The U.S. government raised suspicions that these companies have abused employment-based immigration systems, and a federal investigation is currently underway. U.S. Vice President JD Vance claimed that Microsoft is one of the companies that have abused this system. Other companies included in the sanctions are Cognizant, Tata, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and Capgemini. Vice President Vance stated that there is no deadline for the suspension and it will remain in place until the issues are resolved. The permanent labor certification program is a procedure that supports foreign workers in obtaining employment-based green cards, separate from the H-1B visa. Microsoft stated that it will provide additional information to the government regarding the use of the H-1B visa program. This announcement was made on the day President Trump is scheduled to award the national medal to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The U.S. government also announced that it has begun investigations into foreign exchange visitor visa holders at major universities.
