Why Is AMD Stock Down 11%? What to Expect From Nov. 3 Earnings

By: WEEX|11/02/2026 08:45:00
TL;DR
  • AMD Stock Drop: AMD fell 10.88% to $504.80 on Oct. 30 following Intel's PC slowdown warning and concerns over AI spending.
  • Earnings Outlook: AMD reports on Nov. 3, with investors focused on Q4 revenue guidance near $16.14 billion, Helios AI growth, and gross margins around 56%.
  • Stock Price Prediction: Options imply a ±9.3% earnings move, but the direction remains uncertain.
  • WEEX Event: Predict AMD's post-earnings direction in the WEEX Stocks × Earnings Predictions event for a share of the 1,000 USDT prize pool. Event ends Nov. 6, 2026 (UTC+8); AMD prediction deadlines follow the event rules.

TL;DR: AMD closed at $504.80 on Oct. 30, down 10.88%, according to Yahoo Finance's market recap, after Intel said the PC slowdown would last at least through the first half of next year. PCs make up only about 23% of AMD's expected third-quarter revenue, so the Nov. 3 report is likely to be judged on something else: fourth-quarter guidance against a consensus near $16.14 billion, and whether gross margin holds near 56% as the Helios rack systems ramp.
All market data below is as of the Oct. 30, 2026 close, the latest completed regular session when this article was written on Nov. 2, unless stated otherwise.

Why Did AMD Stock Drop 11% on October 30?

Intel's outlook set off the drop, and fresh doubts about AI spending made it worse. AMD's own results had not changed: it reports after the market close on Nov. 3, per AMD Investor Relations.
The trigger came late on Oct. 29. Intel's third-quarter release forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15.0 billion to $16.0 billion, and its CFO said, "we see the PC slowdown continuing at least through the first half of next year." Intel fell 28.6% the next day, a broader chips index lost 7.2% and the Nasdaq Composite lost 2.86%, The Edge Malaysia reported on Oct. 31.
Amazon added a second worry on the same night. Its free cash flow over the past 12 months was an outflow of $42.4 billion, compared with an inflow of $14.8 billion a year earlier, while its 2026 capital spending forecast stayed at $220 billion, Stock Analysis reported on Oct. 30. That matters to AMD from the other direction, because Amazon-scale AI budgets are the kind of spending AMD's data center forecast depends on. Investors spent Friday pricing both problems at once: weak PCs today, and the question of how long AI spending can outrun cash flow.
Put together, AMD fell about 12.7% across two sessions, based on its 2.08% decline to $566.42 on Oct. 29 reported by TradingKey and the Oct. 30 close.

How Will Intel's PC Slowdown Affect AMD Earnings?

Many readers assume Intel's warning applies equally to AMD, but the data shows a very different revenue mix.
For the third quarter, analysts expect about $8.27 billion from Data Center and about $3.03 billion from Client, according to Zacks estimates cited by TradingKey on Nov. 1. Against MarketBeat's total revenue consensus of about $13.09 billion, cited in the same report, that puts Data Center near 63% and Client near 23%.
Two details make the read-across weaker still. AMD already told investors on its Aug. 4 earnings call that "we're planning for a softer PC market as higher memory and component costs weigh on demand." And the $3.03 billion Client estimate already sits below the $3.1 billion AMD reported for the second quarter, so some softness is in the numbers. What Intel added on Oct. 29 was duration, with the slowdown now running into 2027. That could still hurt AMD's guidance if management sees the same thing.
Bottom line: the PC warning is a real risk for AMD, but about a quarter of the business cannot carry the whole Nov. 3 verdict. Data center guidance matters more.

Will AMD Stock Rise or Fall After November 3 Earnings?

A beat alone has not settled the direction. AMD topped EPS estimates in four of its last five reports, and the stock closed lower after two of those four.
Report dateEPS vs. estimateOptions-implied moveNext-day close
Aug. 4, 2026$1.66 vs. $1.61±8.0%-7.00%
May 5, 2026$1.37 vs. $1.29±8.8%0.186
Feb. 3, 2026$1.53 vs. $1.32±8.2%-17.30%
Nov. 4, 2025$1.20 vs. $1.18±7.3%0.025
Aug. 5, 2025$0.48 vs. $0.50±8.3%-6.40%
Sources: EPS and next-day moves from Regards of Wall Street's AMD earnings history; implied moves from Earnings Watcher. Both retrieved Nov. 2, 2026.
The February report is the clearest example. EPS came in about 16% above the estimate, and the stock lost 17.3% the next day.
Positioning helps explain some of this. Before the August report, the stock had gained about 21% in five trading days, INDmoney noted in its review of the quarter, so a 3% EPS beat left little to reward. This time AMD goes into the report after a sharp drop. A lower starting point changes what counts as a surprise, though it does not protect the stock if guidance disappoints.

AMD Q4 2026 Guidance: Revenue, AI Growth and Margins

The bar is a consensus of about $16.14 billion in fourth-quarter revenue, about 23% above the third-quarter estimate, as 24/7 Wall St. reported on Oct. 29. The third quarter itself looks less demanding, with consensus only about $90 million above the midpoint of AMD's guidance of about $13 billion, plus or minus $300 million.
That $3 billion step depends heavily on Helios. CEO Lisa Su said on the Aug. 4 call that the ramp "is just starting at the end of Q3 and it'll be much more substantial in Q4," and that customer pull was "tracking ahead of our initial forecasts." Listeners will want to hear whether shipments began on schedule, and whether AMD can name buyers beyond OpenAI, Meta and Anthropic, the customers highlighted by 24/7 Wall St.
Margin is where this gets harder. AMD guided third-quarter non-GAAP gross margin to about 56%, and CFO Jean Hu said on the same call that Helios gross margin is "slightly below corporate average." So a strong Helios quarter can lift revenue and pull on margin at the same time. INDmoney estimated that each percentage point of gross margin is worth about seven cents of quarterly EPS, which is why a flat 56% guide weighed on the stock in August even with revenue above consensus.
Server CPUs are the other support. Su said server revenue should grow "more than 80% year-over-year in the second half of 2026," a target that gives investors a second way to test demand if GPU timing is hard to read.

Should You Buy AMD Stock Before November 3 Earnings?

This article makes no buy or sell call, and the answer depends on the growth you are willing to pay for. At the Oct. 30 close, AMD traded at about 32 times the 2027 EPS consensus of $15.76 cited by 24/7 Wall St. That multiple assumes the data center ramp arrives roughly on schedule.
Evidence that would support that assumption on Nov. 3 includes fourth-quarter guidance at or above consensus, gross margin holding near 56% and Helios shipments confirmed as started. Evidence against it would be a guide below $16.14 billion, a margin outlook that slips as Helios grows or a shift in shipment timing. A Client forecast that echoes Intel's 2027 caution would matter too, though less than the others given the revenue mix.

How Much Could AMD Stock Move After Earnings?

Options were pricing a move of about ±9.3% for AMD's report, compared with an average earnings move of ±10.6% over 10 years, according to Earnings Watcher's implied-move table for the week of Nov. 2.
In the table above, three of the five reports stayed inside the implied range. The two that broke out, in May and February, moved more than twice as far as options suggested, in opposite directions. An implied move describes size and says nothing about direction.
Investors will also get two early reads before AMD reports, because Apple and Palantir are both due after the Nov. 2 close. Apple's commentary on memory costs bears directly on the PC concern, and Palantir's demand commentary speaks to whether AI budgets are holding. Either could shift the setup and the implied move before AMD's numbers arrive.
