ZEC Treasury Company Announces NU7 Voting Position, Advocates for Retaining Halving Mechanism

Foresight News reports that the Zcash Treasury Company has published its position on five voting issues related to NU7. It stated that its treasury holds 323,394.38 ZEC, accounting for approximately 1.91% of the total Zcash network, and possesses 4.2 Gsol/s of Equihash hashing power. However, due to the custody being managed by qualified custodians and the on-chain voting mechanism being relatively new, it will not participate in this round of voting but will publicly share its analysis for community reference.

Its positions on the five NU7 issues are as follows: 1. Issuance Smoothing Mechanism: It recommends retaining the four-year halving mechanism, arguing that 83.5% of token holders opposed the smoothing proposal in previous votes, and that halving is the most recognized feature of Zcash's positioning as "store of value / digital gold," with modifications being irreversible and highly symbolic; 2. Fee Reissuance Activation Timing: It suggests activating as soon as possible after NU7 is launched, reasoning that immediate effectiveness builds more trust than setting a distant date, and expressing skepticism about whether the protocol needs to subsidize miner security through reissuance; 3. Sprout Decommissioning Date: It recommends not setting a decommissioning date in NU7, arguing that this proposal faced 84.6% opposition in previous votes, and as of August 24, the Sprout funding pool still holds approximately 22,621 ZEC, and freezing user access to funds undermines the core value of cryptocurrencies against censorship; 4. Accelerating Block Time (from 75 seconds to 25 seconds): It clearly supports this, stating that testnet data shows an uncle block rate (the proportion of blocks generated but not adopted by the main chain) of about 4% (expected to be below 2% on the mainnet, lower than the approximately 5.4% during Ethereum's PoW period), and that it can significantly reduce block time variance; 5. NU7 Release Plan: It recommends releasing according to the original timeline and discarding unfinished features, arguing that Zcash has not released a major protocol upgrade for over two years, and indefinitely waiting for all features to be ready is equivalent to an open-ended time black hole.

It stated that the above positions were formed based on extensive consultations with protocol engineers, cryptography experts, and community members, and that the methodology is rooted in Karl Popper's falsifiability principle. The public release is intended to invite criticism and scrutiny, with a commitment to revise its position should stronger arguments emerge.
