Banks Prepare for Quantum Transition with 2027 Target
Banks and institutional custody companies are working to adapt their internal systems to new cryptography standards before quantum computers threaten existing wallet keys. Project Eleven and Quantus are collaborating to maintain current approval, key management, and auditing mechanisms during the transition of institutional investors to blockchain systems that use quantum-resistant cryptography. The two companies aim to provide support that will allow institutions to manage Quantus keys through hardware security modules in the first quarter of 2027. This process could complicate the consensus on the same signature methods among different blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum in the post-quantum era. Alex Pruden, CEO of Project Eleven, notes that financial institutions have begun preparations for the post-quantum transition. Quantus uses the ML DSA standard for key generation and transaction signatures. CEO Christopher Smith expresses that advancements in artificial intelligence are accelerating quantum hardware. While the timeline for the emergence of quantum computers remains uncertain, some institutions are advancing their preparation schedules.
