Revolut Launches First Euro Stablecoin 'EURR' on Ethereum
Revolut has launched its first euro stablecoin, 'EURR', on Ethereum through Stripe's Bridge, marking a significant milestone in the European market.
The Revolut app now offers EURR, the first stablecoin backed by the euro.
The digital banking giant Revolut has introduced its first proprietary stablecoin, 'EURR', which is pegged to the euro at a 1:1 ratio. The initial rollout targets three countries: Denmark, Poland, and Portugal, making it available to approximately 2 million users.
The issuance of EURR is managed by Bridge Building S.A., a Luxembourg-based company acquired by payment giant Stripe, which provides the stablecoin infrastructure. The token is offered through Revolut Digital Assets Europe and is backed by euro reserves managed by Bridge in accordance with the EU's MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) regulation.
With the full implementation of MiCA in Europe, regulations on unlicensed stablecoins have tightened. In response, Revolut has decided to delist the USDT stablecoin issued by Tether in the EEA (European Economic Area) and Switzerland. Starting from August 31, 2026, any USDT balances held by users will be automatically converted to local fiat currencies. EURR is positioned as a strategic asset to fill the market gap created by this USDT withdrawal.
Deployment on Ethereum and App Integration
As the first step for EURR, operations will begin on the Ethereum blockchain. It will be integrated into Revolut's personal app and displayed alongside regular account balances.
Fees and Limits:
There are no transaction fees or spreads for exchanges with fiat currencies, but usage limits according to the company's cryptocurrency trading terms will apply.
External Wallet Support:
The ability to transfer to external cryptocurrency wallets has been gradually enabled for some users and will be progressively opened as on-chain liquidity expands.
Future Outlook and Expansion Strategy
This launch begins in three countries selected based on market size, but the company intends to gradually expand its offerings across the entire EEA as product and regulatory preparations are completed, either by the end of this year or in the second half of 2026.
Furthermore, multi-chain support for blockchains other than Ethereum and the development of new tokens linked to currencies other than the euro are also underway. With a customer base exceeding 80 million, Revolut aims to seamlessly connect traditional banking infrastructure with the cryptocurrency ecosystem, further promoting the adoption of Web3 finance.
