Sean Bowe Criticizes Justin Drake's Quantum Warning for Undermining Credibility
Tachyon co-founder Sean Bowe posted on X, criticizing Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake's recent warnings about quantum threats, stating that such vague alerts could cause multiple damages and undermine the credibility of his quantum advocacy work. Bowe pointed out that threats from quantum computing and artificial intelligence do exist, and industry teams are making careful decisions to address risks and help users navigate uncertainties. He mentioned that some teams have strong cryptographers, while others need to rely on trusted experts, as the complexities involved are difficult to explain to non-cryptographers, and experts should remain calm and take responsibility. Bowe believes that after clarification, people may find this was merely an unintentional promotional move that led to a significant loss of trust, with no clear direction on how to proceed. He noted that the judgment regarding the relevant direction is correct, and although previous warnings were meaningful, they have now turned into uncontrolled predictions lacking feedback constraints, which could have long-term impacts on trust in classical cryptography. He demanded that Justin Drake explain why he believes this approach is correct.
