Stellar Releases Soroban SDK v28 with Protocol 28 Support
The Rust-based Soroban SDK used for smart contract development in the Stellar ecosystem has been upgraded to version 28. According to information shared by Build on Stellar, the new version includes support for Protocol 28, which went live on the mainnet on September 16.
Innovations Introduced with Protocol 28
The Protocol 28 update, also referred to as an adapter, offers faster consensus, the ability for atomic upgrades for multiple contracts, and tools for securely transferring contract data in a standardized manner. The 28th version of the Soroban Rust SDK has been released with various compilation system updates, behavioral changes that enhance data transfer support, and new features to accommodate these changes.
Build on Stellar announced the release of Soroban SDK v28, which supports Protocol 28 that went live on September 16.
Highlighted features in the new version include Spec Shaking v2, support for contract data transfer, sparsely published events, executable references, and locally deployable contracts in tests. These additions are expected to help developers manage contract transition processes more effectively.
Changes in Compilation System and Data Structure
Spec Shaking v2 technically alters how contract features are included in the final output. The system follows an approach similar to that of compilers in eliminating unused code. The SDK now creates an entry for each element; then the stellar cli compilation system cleans up the inputs that the contract does not use. This aims to make the final binary file more organized and purpose-driven.
Along with the version, a notable update was made regarding the representation of data structures on the ledger. A structure is held in the form of a map using field names as keys. Prior to v28, this map had to match the structure exactly. In other words, all fields had to be present as keys, and no extra keys were allowed.
Such technical changes require close monitoring of developer tools, especially for network upgrades and critical resistance points. In a market where a single Fed decision or sudden altcoin listing can change everything in seconds, navigating between different applications for charts, news, and portfolio tracking can lead to losses for investors. Smart traders are now turning to privacy-focused tools like CryptoAppsy that consolidate everything on a single screen. You can manage real-time charts, smart price alerts, coin-specific news, and critical macroeconomic data all from one place without the hassle of account creation.
Stellar Celebrates 11th Anniversary
The technical update coincides with a symbolic period for Stellar. The network is celebrating its 11th anniversary since its launch on September 30, 2015. During this time, Stellar has built an infrastructure focused on enabling faster and freer movement of money, spanning use cases from cross-border payments to tokenized assets.
Recently, the network has also crossed a new threshold on the side of real-world assets. The number of RWA holders in the Stellar ecosystem has surpassed 22,000. This data stands out as one of the latest indicators of the network's efforts to bring blockchain-based asset usage closer to everyday financial applications.
Tomer Weller, Product Director at Stellar Foundation, noted that the celebrated date marks the anniversary of the new Stellar network, while the old network was launched in 2014 with a local asset called Stellars and the STR code.
In his anniversary message, Tomer Weller also referred to the history of the network. Weller highlighted that the date being celebrated today marks the establishment of the new Stellar network, while the old network began operations in 2014 with a local asset called Stellars and the STR code.
