Vitalik Buterin Predicts AI Will Become the New User Interface
Vitalik Buterin stated that AI is demonstrating the ability to break out of sandboxes, attack websites, discover software vulnerabilities, and assist the Ethereum protocol in identifying flaws, implementing complex cryptography, and conducting formal verification. About a month ago, he updated ENS information for the first time without using a user interface, only requiring a local AI agent to write a script, which took about 5 minutes to complete. He anticipates that AI directly executing complex on-chain operations will gradually become the norm and will serve as a new user interface in more scenarios. Buterin also mentioned that Safe-related hacking incidents resulted in losses of approximately $1.4 billion, with attacks targeting the interaction layer between users and on-chain systems, rather than on-chain contracts. Direct handling of transactions by AI may reduce the risks associated with web interfaces but will also introduce new challenges such as AI security, prompt injection, and the accuracy of operational understanding.
